Patrick Mulcahy, also known as ‘The Mindful Farmer’ was born in West Limerick and became a member of An Garda Siochána in 1975. He arrived in Mitchelstown on a cold winter’s night in 1978 and it is here that he has lived ever since. In 1985, with his wife Miriam, they bought Ballinwillin House and Farm and for over forty years it has been their family home and place of refuge. Patrick has been practicing mindfulness from a young age and has continued to practice mindfulness and meditation throughout his life, and his philosophy for living is based on the concept of ‘the river’.

This book was conceived at the beginning of Covid-19 as a series of blogs that Patrick wrote for his Facebook page, The Mindful Farmer. It is a collection of daily thoughts, feelings, prayers and, in particular, of the hope that was visited on him, The Mindful Farmer, his family and his team at Ballinwillin House Farm and Gardens during the pandemic. It covers the first 365 days after the first lockdown caused by Covid. Each day’s writing is an invitation to grow, pray and help each other, to be who we are meant to be and to live more in tune with Mother Nature and God.
